So then. Korea.
Certainly a second world nation at best. Dirty streets, pitiful infrastructure, and everything (and everybody) appearing to be teetering on the brink of poverty. I ask you, why does the US Navy have any interest in Donghae, Korea? We stopped for an afternoon in this marvelous port to take a break before some big excersize the pilots had planned. It gave me a chance to put another notch in the "nations I've visited" column of my personal self worth agenda.
Despite the mess of the place, me and a few of the lads made the best of the evening. We tried some Korean food of course. Say all you want about Mexican, and latin food in general. These Koreans take spicy food to levels our hispanic friends have never dreamed of. Around nine pm we followed the flashing lights to what we hoped would be some happening night life but none was to be found. The Koreans don't dance apparently. At the end of of it all we hooked up with a handful of people we knew from the boat and drank responsibly at a bar near the harbor.
I left Korea with a fine collection of bootleg dvds, two "mink" blankets, and a dominating case of indigestion. I did feel pretty savvy looking down into my wallet and seeing three different nations currency there. We pull back into our home port of Yokosuka on the 8th of the this month and have some serious down time before it's anchors aweigh agian and we make for Hong Kong and other points there about. I am really looking forward to setting my feet on dry ground agian. We'll see what happens.
Pictures of my exploits at sea these past months are iminent (sp?).
