(Read while on honeymoon)
Ahern's books (with the exception of "PS, I Love You" seem to be in the realm of "fairytales for adults" - and this book is no exception.
Luke lives with his aunt Elizabeth, in the absence of his mother, Saoirse, who is a wild, out-of-control, party-girl. Elizabeth likes being in control, doesn't like things to stray from being neat and tidy, and doesn't like any kind of fun or games.
Then one day, Ivan, arrives. Ivan is a "best friend" ... a kind of "guardian angel" who has been sent, so he thinks, to look after Luke. However it soon becomes clear that his work is not with Luke, but with Elizabeth as well. Ivan changes their lives dramatically, and Elizabeth sees what she has been missing in life.
This is a great little book if you like fantastical fairy tales. I give this book 8 out of 10.
