a postcard from New Mexico

On Saturday I recieved a postcard from a friend which contained a matter of food protocol, it was much appreciated:

If you're in a New Mexico restaurant and they ask you "Red or Green?" they're asking you what kind of chili you want on your food. If you want both, just answer "Christmas".

postcard, people, food

Christmas, cool. I long to travel to Taos, New Mexico. Perhaps one day.

Thanks for the text message - I wrote a reply in my journal, hope you got to read it. :)

Read and replied. Why Taos? Some experience or remembrance?

Not sure. I've only been to New Mexico once, driving through on the way to Denver, one of the corners, a town called Raton. It felt really special to be there, but then so did Utah and the Arches National Park.

Taos has been a bit of an artists' colony for years. A lot of groovy New Age-y people live there, a lot of creative types, there are four seasons, a lot of snow in winter, good food, Mexicans and native Americans, it just seems like the place to be.

Only thing is, it's dry. And there wouldn't be nearly so many trees as I'm used to in Atlanta. Not the same cultural scene either, if you can call what happens in Atlanta a cultural scene.

It's something I've thought about for years and years. Also, Georgia O'Keefe lived and painted in New Mexico.
