evidently the internet is nostalgic too

Tucked away under the Ford Factory Square, Innovox is an internet cafe and lounge that hosts a variety of events and entertainment. The crowd is an interesting mixture of individuals whose styles run the gamut. One thing you can count on is that Innovox is a great place for people watching, and the coffee's pretty good too! Friendly staff and comfortable seating characterize this alternative to the club scene. -outdated atlanta notes

Apparently the former owner is still on the internet. Hope he is doing something cool these days.

So many memories. It was close to campus, open very late on weekends, and very open socially. Couches were sort of sprawled out in open space, and the high ceilings it all encouraged talk and mingling. I actually talked to strangers.

On Friday nights there was a dj there who would spin downtempo and electro-bossa nova (yay Thievery Corp. yay Suba) and on Saturday there was a hippy drum circle. One night I was there and the guy let me blow his conch shell! On Sundays there was sometimes a Goth event with all the associated garb and music which was sometimes cool, and one time we even wandered into some sort of crowded r&b musician's release party.

Steve and I had our first playdate here. Alan and Jose and I would go here on restless nights. When Alan was involved sometimes Amelia and Sam would show up. My second year, I met this cute jailbait girl and we had an awkward "date", but we talked about things and drank herbal tea. She drew comics, I remember. When Vinny and I started working on Hubbub, we went there for drinks and to test our feature extraction in noise. Jesse and I would go there and I would try to explain that life was not so depressing. One night I saw one of my CS2130 students and Howard and someone else. This was the first time I was reacquainted with Elise (a year after she tried to convince me to quit computer science uni and write macro scripts for CNN) and the difficult and confusing episodes to yet to pass. And I was comfortable going there alone, which says something.

I'm against nostalgia in principle. But Innovox is one of those types of places that will never be experienced in Atlanta for a while I think.
