Months ago I was wondering how to show closed captions for the deaf, thinking this would aid my comprehension of Spanish and Catalan programs. So I finally got it working! But it's a little more indirect, there is no "caption" button on the remote.
But there is Teletext. An obsoleting protocol for developed by BBC during the seventies, it provides semi-interactive access to news and information per channel; and has since spread across Europe for broadcast TV. It is perhaps the social equivalent of BBS systems, if they were centrally planned and government funded.
Anyway, to see subtitles for most programs or movies showing, you activate TT for the channel, then press 888. And it helps.
