He listens to her thoughts in silence inexplicably finding a sense of hope to her remarks about him or rather the Damar of her universe. But on the same note he can't help but feel a little dissipointed by the truth that is in her words. There is no way he could turn on his people now, nor would he ever expect her to do the same. Still the fact the thought still occured to her is oddly comforting; at least he knows he isn't the only one.

Wouldn't the mutual understanding of one's duty to their people always comes frist help enhance the relationship rather then tearing it apart? I found at least from watching others, that if one's mate doesn't share that understanding things can become tense between them only because it usually ends with an ultimatium. As if we would ever choose anything over our peoples welfare and security.

So perhaps these in between moments that you speak of are the best we can hope for. But then perhaps there is more to these moments then we realize or understand. I suppose in the end there is only one way to find out and that is by experiencing it...
