Poem

Here's a poem I wrote a while ago...

The One You Cannot Break

You say you love me,
You say you care.
For seventeen years,
All you have said are lies.

Deceitful and cunning,
You speak in riddles,
Tricking, not only me,
But my closest companion as well.

Angry and defiant,
You made him,
A reflection of yourself.
You poisoned his mind with liquor.

You made him your pawn,
In your wicked game of revenge and hate.
Willing to sacrifice him,
To get your satisfaction of a better prize.

You've made me suffer,
And almost turned my mind as well.
But close I stayed to another,
My wisest choice yet.

So close, I was,
To being lost.
Three years ago,
So close, I was.

But close I stayed to another,
My wisest choice yet.

I was too forgiving,
My mistake.
For I was selfless,
Yet another mistake.

The little hints,
I should have seen sooner.
The ones that exposed you,
For whom you really are.

Leaving me behind,
In another country.
Boldly saying,
I was the cause of your mistakes.

Haunting me,
As a young child.
Terrorizing my mind,
And influencing others to do the same.

Your negative and only characteristics
Leaked out through me.
But I am suppressing them,
Shutting the door on them, until they can knock no more.

Stronger, I have become,
Over time.
My will to not utter a sound to you,
Is permanently chiseled into my mind.

I will not let you destroy me,
Like you destroyed him.
I will not let you put me in distress,
Like you distressed her.

I will be,
Oh yes,
I will be,
The one you cannot break.
