So here is the timeline of
this fic and some of the associated research, for those who are interested! It's not all that long, but I at least recommend reading the part about the painting Tao had worked on, which is under the 1736 date.
1592-98: Korea, with the help of Ming Dynasty China, repels two Japanese invasions.
1736: Qing Dynasty Chinese court painters recreate Zhang Zeduan's classic panoramic painting,
Along the River During Qingming Festival.
The city in the painting is Bianjing, now known as
Kaifeng. A parallel for that painting within the western world, when it comes to how famous it is, is the Mona Lisa. The original is on a 5.25-meter scroll, the remake on a 6.7-meter scroll, and they had a lot of time, so… haha otl.
1839-1942: The First Opium War takes place.
1856-1860: The Second Opium War takes place. After two
Opium Wars, France, the United Kingdom, the United States and Russia gained many concessions from China resulting in the decline of the Qing Dynasty.
1876-1879: 13 million Chinese die of
famine in northern China.
1895: Queen Min (Empress Myeongseong) is assassinated in the private royal residence inside Gyeongbok Palace by Japanese agents.
1919: The
March 1st Movement occurs in Korea during Japanese occupation. The Korean Declaration of Independence is proclaimed in appointed places throughout the country. Among the 2 million people who participated in more than 1,500 demonstrations, 7 thousand were killed by the Japanese police force and army, 16 thousand were wounded, and 46 thousand were arrested.
1939-1945:
World War 2 takes place.
2011: The
fic this remix was based on takes place.
2012: Spoiler: (Baekhyun takes Zitao’s place in the cycle (again?).
So yes, the person who gave Tao immortality near the beginning of the fic was Baekhyun. :c)
as with the rest of history, the events mentioned here have a lot of other events surrounding them, such as queen min's assassination and the march 1st movement. for those who have a few more questions, i can try to entertain them, but i suggest looking for a really good reference text! history is interesting. uwu
