Why do I want to get out of debt so badly? Why don't you just finance a car? Get a credit card? Join the rest of the human race and follow the system

You know, I ahve done some really stupid (financial) things, in my time. One notable, and I attribute it to being young, and dumb. Possibly two, but being 19 when I did both, again, young and dumb

Your last line says it all. Just smile sweetly and say, "I don't take financial advice from broke people who are determined to stay broke!" ;D
I don't have much debt at all, but I don't have a big income either, so I'm making every penny scream for mercy on my budget. Just having a concise plan and executing it is making all the difference.
Have you heard Dave Ramsey's radio show? I listen to him every day and it really keeps me motivated and focused. You can find him on a radio station in your area if you go to daveramsey.com
A book, "The Millionaire Next Door" was written after a study of the habits of the average, self-made millionaire in America. Almost none of them drive BRAND new vehicles. They never have. They buy 2 year old, or older, cars and pay cash. A BRAND new vehicle loses 60% of it's value in the first 4 years. That's like throwing a $100 bill out the window every week. GACK!
My brother in law is a car salesman for a local relatively high end Buick,Caddie place. He was trying to sell me a two year old truck...foir $28K. I told him he was batty, because a new truck could be bought for that price. I'm not stupid. my dad worked at a used car lot -I haggled the price on my first car, when I was 15, because the owner wouldn't come down, after my dad was after him for a month. I know cars, their value, and depreciation. A car less than say, 2-4, especially if you buy from an individual, it is not worth it, buy new. My "new" truck in a few years...it'll probably be a 5 year old truck with decent miles...don't really have an intention in buying "new".
My cousin is always on about Dave Ramsey -I actually caught part of his show, the other day -on TV. He sounds like he has some sense.
Oh! I didn't mean to come off sounding like I thought you were stupid! *cringe* I was in a hurry when I replied, the clock was bearing down on me to hurry up and eat my grits and get to work. lol
It was more of an all inclusive reply to anyone else that might be reading as to why I was saying what I was saying. :) I think it is AWESOME that you went in at 15 and made your own car deal. I'm NO GOOD at haggling. Just name a price and if I don't want to pay it, I'll leave. LOL
I wish I could see Dave on tv, but alas, in my debt-freedom quest, cable doesn't even make the priority list. Actually, I haven't had cable since 2004? 2003? Pretty much since the X-Files stopped. I don't really miss it.
