There is a war. I can hardly think back to a time when there was not a war in some capacity. A debate waged between proponents of strong- and weak- Ai. Between those who believe that artificial intelligence will one day attain consciousness and sentience, and those who believe that it can never become more than a particularly useful and clever tool (ideally of the form of some hot japanese chick). I’m curious: what if the strong are right, as often seems the way, and we can one day create a conscious synthetic intelligence (there’s already a Pc term for them - artificial implies a fake, apparently)? What will that imply for the supremacy of the Gods and the sanctity of Mother Nature? I suppose that there will be little reason to forbid genetic engineering, once we have already improved on nature’s work. Will the creation of even an inferior synthetic being (let’s assume that it requires regular recharging) not mean that we must revaluate our principles and our assumptions? We already know they’ll kill us all and rule the world and be subverted and bound to three ineffable law… blahblahblah, blah… but what will it mean for us and our Way of Thought?
