I am quite certain that things were not always so, that I did not wander away when people bored me, or find myself straining to maintain social charades. I seem to recall being quite a social fellow, happy to talk about anything and nothing. Being unable, as of yet, to blame age for my discourteous ineptitudes, I must recourse to the possibility ( Read more... )

" I must recourse to the possibility that I have been keeping rather one-sided company. Is it possible that, loitering with smart and interesting people, I have inured myself to the pleasant wash of daily banter?"

Yeah. You should come out with us more.

"come out with us more" - Just what I was thinking! :D

Having a good natter about inconsequential things is very good for the soul (and gives the mind a bit of a break)!

That's an amazing plan with no drawback! I knew I hung around with you guys for a good reason ;¬) In other news: all the bits for my awesome new computer have arrived *does the happy dance* I just hope I don't utterly destroy it when I try to put it together :¬/ Are people doing the pub thing on Wednesday? I'm not sure we are but it's always good to know stuff in advance... always... stuff... yeah.

I now know the nifty trick with the plug (what could go wrong) are there any other things I should do to make sure I don't frazzle my hard-earned money? I don't have one of those twee bracelet things, although out technician swears by them. Aside from touching cold metal regularly, what can I do... but pray?

Just that basically. Make sure you touch the metal case every time before you touch a chip/motherboard etc. And whatever you do don't even think of touching the legs of a chip!

(oh, yeah....and pray)

;-)

An enviable victory, but I suspect that it might falter as a modus operandi... better to aim for tip-toeing and bodge when all else fails.
By which, of course, I mean "if" all else fails *cough*

"Do not touch legs" ...that sounds vaguely familiar actually... I will add that to my mental list of horrors-never-to-be-forgotten, right before "Blood sacrifice" but after "Plug in Psu to earth". (Just in case you thought I wasn't paying attention).

I don't think I'll be able to pub, actually. I'll be free from lunchtime, but obviously everybody will be at work. But I need to get home at a reasonably respectable time since I have an early start on Thursday. Which probably means leaving London at seven-ish.

I'm up for a lunch meet-up if you're planning on being in central London sometime during the day. I can take my lunch hour pretty much whenever, and there are some pretty cool eateries in Victoria. Might be able to get Andrea along, don't know about anybody else that works in central London (Liss is in Seattle until next week).
So yeah... Lunch?
