Thanksgiving!

Everything is amazing and wonderful. My Thanksgiving meal was perfect and I wound up doing even more of it on my own than I expected. My father helped me shop, did some dishes, made the desert and the brie, and poked a probe at the turkey occasionally to check if it was done. My mother helped me make the stuffing and showed me how to prep the bird. Everything else from prep cooking to meal planning to deciding on what needed to be done when was all me. And dinner was only ten minutes late after shooting for 6:00. This was three days in the making and as late as Tuesday, I thought I was just going to help prep cook.

The feast:
Spiced Almonds Three Ways: cumin and chili; fennel and orange; and cinnamon, sugar, and cloves
Baked Brie with Cranberry Jam
My Beer Bread

Roasted Fingerling Potatoes with Red and Yellow Piperade
Pear balsamic glazed carrots with Parker County peaches
Savory Butternut Squash and Parmesan Bread Pudding with garlic french loaf
Herbed Stuffing
Sherry Glazed Roasted Turkey with
Mushroom Thyme Gravy

Maple Pumpkin Pudding Cake

and a selection of beer, red wine, Heaven Hill Bourbon, or Good as Gold Cocktail

I got to share the meal with absolutely stellar company. Niko is quite honestly one of the most charming people I have ever met and Natalie adds an element of family that would have been woefully absent without her. I toasted to Family, New Friends, Old Friends, and the blurred lines between them all. We chatted for a while, headed to a coffee shop for a low key malanga and I got to catch up with them both. Niko paid me a truly excellent compliment, comparing me to one of his favorite instructors who also happens to be an Oberlin graduate. He said that while most people speak in sentences, we speak in paragraphs. I really hope to see them both very soon.

Life is pretty swell.
