defenestration is lovebrought to you by the isLove GeneratorI'm a little wary of doing anything which might interfere with my ambitious "Quest for the Grad-School G.P.A." this fall, but I'd really like to audition for an upcoming show. In Evansville, preferably. A concern springs to mind, of course...the show I'm looking at holds its ( Read more... )

Dude...I wasn't supposed to say anything, but Peterson is doing a version of Dracula for a Halloween performance as our Fall production. You're a student, so you could get in. The word "version" makes me nervous *shudders as flashes of Scapin haunt*, but Kara (you don't know her, yet) and I are doing an independent study in directing to replace the class (I know...I know, don't EVEN get me started on that and the Acting II screwing I got...), and our project is to put on a production. Kara's will be awesome to work on, and mine...well, not so awesome, but I'ma try my damndest!!! I know I'm doing L-Play by Beth Henley, which is ensemble ala Laramie, and Kara knows she's doing a comedy possibly a musical, don't know what yet. But those are some local possibilities (though you're probably too good to come back to act at Wesleyan...I don't want to get into those issues either...).

Also, Noises Off! raised the bar for TWO, so look into what they're doing this season.

Sorry to ramble, but, you know, one struggling actor trying to help another.

"Versions" of Dracula...*cringe*.

In high school at Webster County, we didn't have any kind of dedicated theatre program, but we did have one of those eccentric (a.k.a. off her fucking rocker) art teachers who directed a few shows. One was her homebrew rewrite of Coppola's Dracula movie, as a musical. As Jonathan, Seward and Harker cornered the newly-undead Lucy in her crypt to stake her undead ass, she arose from the coffin and belted out Shakespeare's Sister's 'Stay'. Later, Mina warbled a couple of Celine Dion songs to Dracula to demonstrate her eternal love, while Jonathan crooned Metallica's 'Fade to Black.' It...wasn't pretty.

I'd never feel too good to act at Wesleyan...but if someone else we both know has said they are...well, here's an eye roll for *that*. And honestly, I'm feeling just about the opposite of "too good"...I'm really worried that lack of doing leads to rustiness, which leads to fear, which leads to the Dark Side and eating baby bunnies. My only issue is the outrageous gas card bill I'd run up with 4-6 weeks of driving to rehearsals. ;-)

Yeah, that's the kind of "version" shit I'm talking about. I don't know that Peterson would go that far, but I know he's gotta be looking for one that can be done in the round. He's really good about scheduling around actor's existing schedules, too.

And no one has SAID they were too good...just a certain some have that attitude.
