I don't want to get deep into the details of the Ron Artest trade situation. Regardless of the details, I've got one possible trade between New York, Denver and Indiana-three teams rumored to be partnering together.
New York gets:
Anthony Johnson (PG)
Julius Hodge (SG)
Jonathan Bender (SF)
Scott Pollard (PF)
Denver gets:
Ron Artest:
Indiana gets:
Earl Watson (PG)
David Lee (PF)
Antonio Davis (PF)
Why it works: Indiana gets a legitimate backup point guard that can log starter minutes while Jamaal Tinsley is on the chilling list. They also get a young, energetic power forward prospect in David Lee. Lastly, Antonio Davis can play spot minutes, setting solid screens for shooters Sarunus Jasikevicius and Stephen Jackson. Davis also comes off the books after this season. Indiana would rid itself of Ron Artest without giving up much else.
Denver doesn't lose much, giving up the multi-talented, but injured Hodge, and a misplaced point guard signing for a Kobe/Manu stopper out West. The question remains, can George Karl co-exist with Ron Ron?
New York adds a competent point guard. In the very least, Johnson is primarily a set-up point guard. Hodge is Brooklyn raised, and also a better passer than scorer. These two players could help the wings. The team sheds itself of Davis' contract and matches it with Pollard and Bender, who has/or is going to retire.
Why it doesn't work: What else is being offered to Indiana right now? Does New York want to give away Lee? Is Denver willing to take on Ron Artest?
What do you guys think? What are some other possible trades for Ron Ron?
