As a reminder, there's five here, and one
there.
Yesterday was the birthday of
mmmm_beer, better known to fans of
obscure documentaries as Bonehead. If I'm going to create a Five for Friday topic for him, I figure I've got one goal: make sure a Fishbone song can fit into it nicely. I think I can do that.
As always, please play along...
Five Party Songs
1. Minutemen, "Maybe Partying Will Help." A typically splendid blast of bouncy bass, sharp guitar and shouted lyrics. I'm often sorry it took me as long as it did to discover their music. This was a great band.
2. Band of Horses, "Weed Party." I'm sure I don't know anything about this sort of thing.
3. The Hold Steady, "Party Pit." That messy, Springsteenesque sound of theirs is perfectly suited for songs with titles like "Party Pit." I'm not sure if "Gonna walk around and drink some more" or "And I'm pretty sure we kissed" better captures the recklessness of twentysomething partying. Maybe it's a tie.
4. Dexy's Midnight Runners, "Come On Eileen." I believe that I and others have already established many times over in this space that this song, perhaps more than any other, represents a party to a certain
drunken tribe.
5. An Emotional Fish, "Celebrate." "Celebrate/This party's over/I'm going home." This track ended many a 90FM house party back in the day.
