It has been only...well, two months. Things have been busy...
I finally got some time to put in the fireplace surround and trim out the family room downstairs. I must say I'm pleased with the results.
To celebrate the completion of this last major project of the endless downstairs remodel, we treated ourselves to a new HDTV and surround system. That, and the last TV had developed a permanent yellow "smudge", and the last sound system was...well, it was the TV. *wince* The new rig is awesome, but took some setup, and the kinks *definitely* need to be worked out before football season. All signs indicate that getting MythTV to talk extended-channel HD is going to be "tricky". ("Ask me what I think about DRM."
As the EFF put it, the entertainment industry wants to take away your fair use rights so they can sell them back to you.)
The other big project was having the upstairs living and dining rooms painted. This meant moving all the furniture, taking up the rugs, and then shoving everything into the middle of the room. It's a lot like moving, but without the exciting new place at the end. We spent a couple days sequestered downstairs with Miranda while the fumes dissipated. It felt like we were couch-surfing in our own house.
The bottom line is that over the course of a week or so, the upstairs *and* downstairs got pretty well trashed. :D
On top of all of it, poor Kinako lost a family member and had to make a short-notice trip back to Japan. At least I got to spend some extra time with Miranda while Kinako was gone.
Miranda got her first two teeth at the very beginning of the year. Still no other teeth to report now that it's nearly March. (Surely,
perkyevil must know who to talk to to get things moving here.) Even with just the two teeth, Miranda does like crunching on celery, and on various types of biscuits. She has always liked playing with her spoon once she is done eating.
perkyevil suggested what we switch to (surprise, surprise) a toothbrush, so now Miranda gets her nubby toothbrush to chew on and wave around, which she seems to like just as well. She has starting feeding herself (as well as her bib, and the floor) Oatios and other small pieces of food.
Although perhaps not quite "crawling" yet, Miranda is able to drag herself along the floor when sufficiently motivated. The biggest motivators are paper products (cardboard or junk mail) and anything that rolls: her ball, the icky cat toys, etc.
She babbles like a champ now, and still does her signature screech, but her most striking vocalization has been trilling her tongue. At first it was only when she was upset, but now she does it mostly when she's happy. It is something to hear - amazingly cute.
So, a few sets from the backlog of photos:
