When I mentioned to Kinako that I wanted Miranda to wear her ninja onesie, I got a bit of a funny look, followed by some Japanese edumacation. The word ninja can really only apply to a man (so perhaps the fact that that onesie is only going to fit Miranda for another 5 minutes or so isn't all bad). The word for a "girl ninja" is kunoichi. Kinako also mentioned that the town she is from, Kanazawa, has an old ninja temple, the
Myoryuji Temple. Overall, having a Japanese au pair on Day of the Ninja was pretty awesome.
(For the really interested: in Japanese kunoichi is written using 3 characters (one Hiragana, one Katakana, and one Kanji), written side by side: くノ一 . The Kanji for onnna, meaning woman or girl, is written using the same 3 markings written on top of one another: 女 )
