I came across this term while looking up Rochester/John Wilmot for today. It's a pretty common swear word here, even with the kids. But most people think it comes from 'bugger', which is thought to mean idiot. Even my dad. ... All I can say is, HAHA!
And yes, this is what I'm learning - sex, sex and sex in the 18th century. Johnny Depp's The Libertine was one of our reference films last week, although we never really got to the naughty bits. (My lecturer chickened out in the last minute and stopped the disc pooo)
