Catching Fire and Thor 2

I don't know when I'll see Catching Fire, because work is hectic just now, but I am very impatient. The soundtrack isn't as amazing as The Hunger Game's, but it's still pretty good.

Entertainment Weekly:

Only three films have ever opened higher than Catching Fire: The Avengers ($207.4 million), Iron Man 3 ($174.1 million), and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($169.2 million). Many prognosticators (this one included) thought Catching Fire might surpass Iron Man 3‘s opening earlier this year, but the superhero sequel had the notable advantage of 3-D ticket sales, and Catching Fire fell short. Still, if estimates hold up when final grosses are released tomorrow, Catching Fire will have bested The Dark Knight Rises as the highest 2-D opener of all time. Rises pulled in $160.9 million during its opening weekend in 2012. Even without 3-D appeal, Catching Fire played very well on IMAX screens. The large-screen format accounted for $12.6 million of its domestic debut.

But everyone knows action movies with female leads don't sell.

A thought about Thor: The Dark World

KY asked an interesting question. Did Loki betray Thor? My recollection is that Loki agreed to help Thor escape, and help against Malekith, but I don't remember the extent of hs promise, and don't think he promised more than that. So in that sense, he fulfilled his bargain. KY argues that he betrayed Thor's trust by not going to Earth to help out, and I'd say along those lines, once Thor finds out, Loki pretending to die probably will hurt even more than his not helping on Earth. My thoughts are perhaps also colored by Loki being a trickster, so his helping out as much as he did, seems like he acted about as honorably as could be expected.

And it got me thinking.

Kurse doesn't free Loki from prison, but Loki gives him advice. Loki ends up free of prison because of an ancient enemy's attack on Asgard and ultimately ends up king of Asgard.

This is exactly the plan he attempted to execute in Thor.

Are you never going to not fall for that trick?

I don't like to think of Loki arranging Frigga's death. But you know how he feels about sentiment.

And killing Frigga doesn't actually serve any purpose for Malekith.
