Agent Carter (short film included with Iron Man 3 release)

Spoilers live in Brooklyn
  • I love the confirmation of all the fannish spec that Peggy Carter was involved in the founding of SHIELD.

  • If her involvement isn't referenced in The Winter Soldier, at least in passing, I will be surprised and disappointed.

  • I also love that Peggy's framed picture of Steve is scrawny pre-serum Steve, possibly on the day she first met him.

  • The shorts are way more cartoonish than the movies.

  • If Dominic Cooper is able to act, this is sadly obscured by his attempt to do a Robert Downey, Jr. impersonation as filtered through technicolor musicals.

  • They probably have Howard tell Peggy's boss "This is Howard" just to make sure that the audience realizes it's the same person Peggy mentioned in the beginning, but it would sound much more natural if he'd said "This is Stark" instead. And given that this is an extra for Iron Man 3, if anyone bothered watching the short without having watched Captain America, saying "This is Stark" probably would have intrigued them more anyway.

  • I am assuming that part of the point of having Peggy save the day before the phone call is to show that she doesn't just get the SHIELD job because of nepotism, but the phone call kind of makes it sound like nepotism anyway.

  • Thanks for acknowledging that sexism existed in the 1940s, Marvel. It might be nice if you recognized that it exists in the 21st century and (a) made a movie starring a woman; (b) did not end your woman-focused short movie with a classic example of the male gaze.

  • Two weeks ago, I was excited about speculation about a Peggy Carter: Agent of SHIELD TV series, but now that I have the first attempt at a SHIELD TV series, I am leaning towards, "Please just leave well enough alone."
