the wonderful world of drama

....cause my life lacks some?

So I've been watching K-dramas recently. Started out with Story of a Man (aka A Man's Story, The Slingshot) which was really good. In a nutshell it's about a man, Kim Shin, who tries to get back at the man/company that made his brother's company go bankrupt, leading him to suicide. The acting, story and characters are very well done - especially Chae Do Woo, portrayed brilliantly by Kim Kang Woo. I highly recommend it.

Next up was Dal Ja's Spring about a 33-year-old working woman Oh Dal Ja who gets into a relationship with a younger man named Kang Tae Bong. Haven't finished it yet, almost done but I can't remember where I stopped. If I had to recommend only one reason to watch it, I'll say Lee Min Ki. His character is honestly too good to be true but hey, what does it matter when I can look at Lee Min Ki? If Tae Bongs were real I'm sure the world would be a happier place.

Goong is what I'm watching currently staring the famous Yoon Eun Hye and currently famous/infamous Joo Ji Hoon. I'm not sure what to say about this drama. In summary it's about a high school girl who marries the Crown Prince of Korea* due to some agreement between their grandfathers long ago. So things end up being a love square involving the royal couple, a royal cousin-in-law, and the Crown Prince's ex-girlfriend (who had rejected his proposal before to study ballet in Europe but then gives it up aftter the marriage to go after him?! WTF bitch? Why are you chasing after a man - whom you REJECTED - and is now MARRIED - all the while giving up a golden opportunity????? Argh. Obviously I have no sympathy for this character). I dislike the Crown Prince too for his ass-like tendencies. The only redeeming feature he has is the awesome smile that belongs to Joo Ji Hoon. And the main character is stupid and annoying. One of the few sympathetic characters (so far) is Prince Eui-Sung/ Yool (why so many names people!) who is the cousin-in-law and former crown prince. Oh, there's also a behind-the-scenes scheme to get Yul back as crown prince. The story tends to drag unfortunately, but somehow I'm still interested to last all 24 episodes.

Lastly (yes I know! Too much Korean!) I watched the first episode of Green Rose yesterday. From what I gather it's your typical revenge drama. This will most likely be slow going for me as I can take only so much drama and tears in a show (and this seems to have it in buckets). Not gonna lie, I'm only watching for Lee Da Hae and now the male lead played by some guy I don't know - but he's cute so we'll see.

All this Korean-ness makes me want to watch a Jdrama but nothing good seems out right now. I've been out of the Jdrama scene for a while so I have no idea where to start from. And unfortunately there's not Jdrama equivalent of the brilliant K-drama blog Dramabeans that can keep me up to date on what's decent. I guess I'm just going to have to jump in randomly or at least estimate a good spot.

*Korea doesn't have a royal family but in this story it does.
