the most *sparkly* day of the year!

... and no it's not because I finished watching Twilight. It's EASTER!!! Happy Easter everyone!!! I ♥ this holiday so. ^^

But the real reason for my post is, well yes, TWILIGHT:the movie. Honestly, how could I not?

I actually decided to watch the movie after it came out on DVD. I'm definitely not a fan of the books by any means (couldn't take more than the first book) but with all the fanatic-ness surrounding the movie ("Twilight Tuesdays" anyone?) I just had to see if the film would live up to the hype. As far as my knowledge goes the fan reaction was mixed I think but generally positive (mainly I think due to RPattz). The Twilight fandom I know is obsessive but in its defense, what fandom is not - OMG Daniel Radcliff does not have green eyes! Emma Watson has blonde hair!! WTF Avatar casting is racist!! (I see the last one but not completely or maybe I'm just being naivevly optimistic in believeing that the saviors being white people and the genocidal bad guys being brown - INDIAN more specifically - is not purposeful, but that, as they say, is a story for another day...oh look I rhymed!)

But back to the movie...I didn't watch it all once - I started last weekend and finished watching the entire second half today so the beginning was kind of choppy. However, from what little I remember of the book, the movie was a very faithful adaptation and was impressed with how it brought the feel of Twilight onsreen. From Bella's stupidity, to the creepyness of Edward, to its lack of logic and overall absurdity, the movie nailed it hands down. I was especially pleased with Kristen Stewart's and Robert Pattinson's (aka KStew and RPattz) portrayls of Bella and Edward, respectively. She's Bella in all her obsessive, passive, and pathetic glory and he's the dazzling emo counterpart in all his romantic stalkerish ways. The best part though was how they brought out the elitism and disdain for all 'normal' people though on second thought that could have just been due to Twilight's portrayl of every non-vampire (Bella excluded) as an idiot. We still don't know why Bella is in love with Edward because unlike the books, she doesn't keep ranting about his beauty every in scene so we must assume it's something else and though her lack of professes for his physique are an improvement, it's still an unsatisfying alternative. The same can be said about Edward's feelings for Bella but you really can't blame the movie when the orginal source has no explanation either - unless you can base the love of a lifetime (and in their case eternity) on unhuman levels of prettiness and superpowers on one side and good smell and mind-blocking powers (? - I'm not sure if this is just an ability or a plot device. Or maybe both?) on the other. Yeah, I don't know either.

That last sentence pretty much sums what I can say towards Twilight. But whatever, at least the series is over. Thankfully it's only four books though that means three more movies. I have no idea how Breaking Dawn is going to work - that thing is just a piece of crack. Or crap, whichever you prefer for they both work in this case.

twilight, rant
