Yup. Very, very provisionally thinking of flying into Damascus, overland to Beirut maybe, then around to Aleppo and - depending on time - day trips to Palmyra and Krak des Chevaliers, then head into Jordan (I really, really want to see Petra), and from there into Israel. I'll only have three weeks tops, though, and spending time with Teh Australian is something of a priority.

I tell my students they are allowed one exclamation mark per story. Otherwise I get things which read like the thrilled puppy dog which repeatedly leapt on me last night, biting and slavering.

On the other hand, I find your use of the semicolon quite soothing.

I am quite partial to a nice semicolon, actually. They take the edge off the edge of sentences; a stop, without a stop, but more determined and active than the petty pause of the comma.

I need to get over my ellipses addiction, though. I've never thought of them as adding weight so much as indecision, and representing the speech patterns of a focus-challenged person such as myself that does tend to trail off mid-...
