John always knew it would be Sam and Dean, not the demon, who ultimately brought him down. That he'd have to sacrifice it all, everything he'd been fighting for, for them. He's been ready for it, waiting for it. Had his chance, even, if Sam had just pulled the damn trigger. It could've been over already. They could've been free.
But now it's his choice, his call, if not exactly his terms. Doesn't matter, really, because if anyone knows that death is only temporary, it's John. He'll find his way back. He'll make it up to them, make this right.
