In Kingston

Work at igourmet.com is going well.  The hours are long, running 11-12 hours a day, but I’ve learned a lot about food and the business.  And after work we’ve had some great tastings, where we try to pair our products to certain brands of wine (St. Francis Vineyards has a business arrangement with us), sake, or spirits.  The biggest problem has been trying to find an internet providor for my apartment.  Verizon, Adelphia, Comcast, Ezlink; no one offers service.  It’s especially odd, as I live 3 blocks from the main road in a well-populated neighborhood.  Otherwise, in the two months I’ve worked here, there have been some exciting moments.

-         We were madatorily evacuated for 24 hours when the local government declared a state of emergency from the flood of the Susquehanna.  My fear wasn’t that I’d lose my apartment─being on the third floor─but that my car would be flooded if the levee broke.

-         I went to a coworker’s birthday party where the lead singer of An Albatross DJ’d a 70’s soul set.  Apparently they’re old childhood friends.  He was really nice and down to earth, although he was dressed like Mick Jagger.

-         Carla and I have finalized our plans to go to Maine.  Lobster, foie gras, and a modern art museum have all been located.
