I finished my final project for Asian lit, which means I’m done with one class for the semester and four more to go. To celebrate I made myself this tasty little cappuccino.
The background in the photo is from Black Dice’s Beaches and Canyons LP, which is also a desperate leap of imagination on my part to mirror the beautiful weather Jon el Guapo is currently enjoying in sunny Los Angeles.
Last night Carla and I made chocolate coffee bean cookies and chocolate church windows, both of which turned out very yummy and strong on the chocolate. Ooooy, I love holiday baking. Well, baking in general.
I’m reading The Maimed by Herman Ungar to wrapper up this semester on a rather depressing note. So far it does remind me of Thomas Mann-Dr. Faustus, Death in Venice-in its focus on the dark aspects of everyday life, but it’s not as quirkily grotesque as Mann. At least not yet. It’s plainly-written, anxiety-ridden, and rather brutal and abusive at times, whereas Mann uses violence like the ringmaster of a surreal carnival freak show. So yea, fun times.
