Holy crap, this is fascinating:
how to make sugar into caramel without melting it, and use it for baking. And it has a lower glycemic index! Weird. So I tried it last night--made 4 lbs of "caramel sugar", and then made oatmeal-ginger cookie dough tonight. We shall discover tomorrow what the results are...
Why don't I spend more time at SeriousEats, there's so much good information on that site.
All these years I thought
"duck tape" was a misnomer. Too cool.
OK,
this is adorable. I'm reading Villette for book club soon, so I'm going to
bookmark this Toast piece. Sady Doyle makes the case for Hillary Clinton. When you hear that Hillary Clinton is unlikable, be aware of the study that shows competent women are generally seen as unlikable; when you hear that Hillary Clinton is dishonest, know that this same study shows women in power are generally seen as dishonest.
It totally sucks that we're losing The Toast, damnit. I hate the new economy. OTOH, in the meantime we get
Mallory and Nicole yelling about CA:CW. Which is hella funny, and they're completely right about Bucky's non-apologizing.
OK, finally got an explanation of
how the various Hamilton productions are going to work. The NYC show is going to run as long as it continues to make money, basically. Same for the Chicago show, once it opens in September. The San Francisco show that starts next March will be here for five months and then go on tour to Atlanta, Boston, Washington, etc. And then there might be a London production. Huh. I suspect I'll just see if I can get tickets to the Chicago production, since it's lots cheaper for me to go there for a long weekend than NYC.
ION, lots of fireworks tonight as the Warriors won by nearly 30 points. Ridiculous. And yet according to He, Trump (tm Charlie Pierce), this town is one of the most dangerous places in the WORLD. I roll my eyes forever. Because a place where you can't walk down the street safely is totally going to host the best basketball team in the world. Yeah, right.
One last thing:
this New Zealand doo-wop trio is AWESOME. *
Recent Reading!
Just finished: Planetfall by Emma Newman. Um. Well, that was the most convincing portrayal of a hoarder I've ever seen. No, but seriously: that's a pretty creepifying story, and goes places you don't expect. Well-done, but I'm pretty sure I don't want to reread it.
Currently reading: The Very Best of Kate Elliott, by Kate Elliott. On sale recently, and I snapped it up. I cannot WAIT for the next Black Wolves novel, although the next Court of Fives novel comes first, I understand.
Up next: Probably City of Stairs by Robert Jackson Bennett.
sartorias recommended it, and she's rarely wrong.
