a last-minute post

I know it's last-minute, but there's still about 90 minutes to get Martha Wells' The Cloud Roads at Amazon for $1.99. It's a marvelous secondary-world fantasy, with a spectacularly creative world (flying islands! dozens of sapient species who live in air, earth, and water!), a solid adventure plot, and the well-defined and sympathetic characters Wells is so good at.

Also, it's all about finding a family and a home after being alone in a dangerous world for too long, and I love that sort of thing.

So check it out: it's $2! What do you have to lose?

In other news, James Nicoll has discovered (or re-discovered?) Rosemary Kirstein, and he's reviewing the Steerswoman novels as they are released for Kindle. You might have heard me or
veejane or
coffeeandink burbling about them at some point, and now is your chance to discover how awesome they are!

Beware, though: James' reviews are rather spoilery if you'd rather not know anything at all.

In other other news, I don't even have a thing to say about the Star Wars casting, except that in 35 years they've only managed to increase female representation to 15%? Although I'm pleased to see Boyega and Isaac, and now I really do need to see Attack the Block, which I've heard about for a while.

I really enjoyed tonight's Agents of SHIELD; lots of shit happened! Some of it was surprising! People got to be awesome or awful, as appropriate! Good stuff.
