No time for a full post, but I was wondering: has anyone else been reading Lindsey Buroker's Emperor's Edge fantasy series? They're steampunk with a spunky heroine, but quite engagingly characterized, with fast-but-clear action sequences and fairly decent world-building. Youthful cop Amaranthe Lokdon gets tripped up by politics and ends up on the run from the law--so she forms an elite squad of mercenaries to do good for the Emperor, in the hope of earning a pardon. Because that's what you do when you've been framed by evil masterminds, I guess. The premise is fairly ridiculous, but the light tone makes it work. I could see these as a television show, frankly.

Even the romantic subplot, which started out kind of icky, is growing on me, since Buroker is making it clear how incredibly damaged the male romantic lead is, and the damage on the other characters is beginning to accumulate as well.

I don't remember why I picked up the first one, but I'm up to book 6 of 7 (in the main sequence; she has 2 associated novels set in the same universe), and really enjoying myself.

And now I should go to bed, since my commute tomorrow is going to be interesting... But I am glad I got the t-shirt first.
