Folks who are into constructed languages may find
this article about a complete invented language intriguing. The article goes from endearingly geeky to kinda creepy, as the conlanger learns the uses to which some people are putting his work. Fascinating, really.
Awww, Hark a Vagrant is
so lovely. And it really does capture the dynamic of the semi-successful child and their parent.
By way of The MarySue:
Hubble Galaxy printed tights. If I had a fancy holiday party to attend, I would totally buy these. So cute!
Outside Magazine wants you to know
how to survive a great white shark attack. The magazine also has
an environmentally-friendly gift guide. (I can't say it's really wallet friendly, though...)
Brainpickings lists

My favorite review of the The Hobbit yet is
Genevieve Valentine's review, not least because she
agrees with me. Because we also get marvelous snarky lines like "I am so handsome at you right now, Gandalf." (Although she did screw up on a minor point of canon: doesn't everyone know Galadriel is Elrond's MIL? [I kid, I kid!])
I watched most of the "SyFy" Channel's 20th Anniversary Special, and was endeared by their respectful treatment of the Save Farscape Campaign, especially considering how terribly we badmouthed them (in backchannel). They even showed a few faces I recognized!

Things have been very busy and kind of fraught around casa de cofax lately (just as a for-example, I left the garage door open on Saturday night and some asshole stole my mountain bike), so I've decided to skip the tree this year. I did however just hang a red velvet bow on my front door, and I'll put out a few of the decorations. The usual suspects have started sending me cards, and once again I haven't gotten my act together for cards. Maybe I'll do them in January...
But I have finished my Christmas shopping, and tomorrow I will ship a package of gifts off to Colorado, so that my nephews remember my name. And perhaps I will bring a fruitcake into the office, even though it's kind of wasted on those philistines.
