SF Signal being remarkably sensible about multi-culturalism; how long until the trolls arrive? [Later note: oh, they have arrived, and are being deleted as they post. Yay for active moderation.]

Linda Holmes at Monkey See notes approvingly Ashley Judd's comments on body-policing in the media.

MightyGodKing has a run-down on Romney's potential running mates. I'm particularly fond of the pony.

Natalie Dee has her own unique take on the Republican platform. ::snerk::

The Mary Sue has some fun fanart relating to Benedict Cumberbatch (which is a name that still makes me snicker).

I am getting really fond of The Mary Sue. Seriously.

Noted for later reading: William Langwiesche on organized crime in Naples. Langwiesche is one of the best non-fiction writers around.

I went to Easter Mass on Sunday, and saw locally-beloved Father L joking and teasing parishioners, and I had to wonder what the community's response would be if he (god forbid) were ever accused of child abuse. And worse, what would the diocese's response be? Anthea Butler on the perfidy of the Catholic bishops: It is increasingly difficult for sober-minded, intelligent people of faith to continue to participate in the complicity of a church that in the American context has bishops, including Archbishop Chaput of Philadelphia, ranting about religious freedom and birth control, while they don't give a damn about the children who have been repeatedly raped and abused in their care.

In a complete change of pace, Jenna Crispin interviewed novelist and programmer Ellen Ullman. I especially disliked the movie Social Network. How glamorous the programmers at Facebook were made to be. From a software engineering point of view, it's not very impressive. It's messy. The code is a mess. The interface is a mess. There is no elegant algorithm behind it all. To portray them as geniuses with these lines of code appearing out of their brain, it's downright objectionable. [On my work machine, the formatting of that page is completely FUBAR: I'm hoping it resolves better on a computer that is not intentionally hobbled for security reasons.]

Brain Pickings reviews a book on the founding of the oldest natural history museum in the western hemisphere.

I find this motivational poster disturbingly accurate. I have more than once driven several miles back home to rectify this sort of thing...
