Boingboing has an
interview with a scientist who studies multi-tasking. It links to a couple of tests for multi-tasking.
As an antidote to the distasteful Anonymous, I give you
William Shakespeare, Gangster. Heh.
By way of Bookslut: did you know that we call folks "guys"
because of Guy Fawkes? I did not!
So apparently Michael Moorcock really really
hates Tolkein. Also Lewis & Richard Adams. But Robin McKinley and Ursula Le Guin and Philip Pullman are okay. Good to know, then.
This is so cool:
this guy sketch-tweeted his running of the NYC marathon.
Monkey See has a nice appreciation of
Morena Baccarin's work in Homeland; I admit that, like writer Mike Hirsh, I had mostly taken Baccarin as a lightweight. It's nice to see she's doing so well.
Box Office Magazine has a review of
J. Edgar, the biopic about the FBI's notorious leader. J. Edgar functions as a Wikipedia page dipped in makeup, an assemblage of half-truths, gossip, innuendo and the occasional historical fact, all drenched in latex and drained of color. It's the cinematic equivalent of the animatronic Lincoln at Disney's Hall of the Presidents: stiff, jerky, mechanical, fake. Yoiks.

If you buy honey at the grocery store, be wary:
apparently a lot of honey is being sold which might have been imported from China and contaminated with additives, like heavy metals. Honey-laundering! The world astonishes me sometimes. In other words, get your honey from farmer's markets or co-ops if you can.
Just last week I reread Nightwatch, which is one of Terry Pratchett's meditations on western civilization, particularly the role of police in a modern, diverse society, dressed up as a fantasy novel with dwarfs, trolls, and were-wolves. I was reminded of Commander Vimes' strong opinions regarding the civilian status of police when I came across
this article regarding the increasing militarization of American police since 2001. Hmm.
