sophie has a clarification on LJ's plan to purge journals and communities. To wit: the purge only applies to Unpaid journals and communities that have only one entry (or none), and in which there has been no activity in the last 24 months. She lays it out more clearly, but that's the gist of it. Whew--this means I don't have to run around finding a backup for ostrich_2008.

Speaking of communities, we have a new Avatar: the Last Airbender (ATLA) comm here:
white_lotus, which I hope will host all sorts of fun stuff, including fic about kickass grown women who are not evil. *grins*

James Nicoll amusingly compares Bruce Wayne and Bertie Wooster, who turn out to have more similarities than just their initials.

The vidder Luminosity stumbled into an opportunity to make a real live music video for a semi-famous band. I can't watch it from work, so I can't tell if it's any good, but that's pretty cool.

Sanguinity has an interesting post here about teaching the canon to high school kids, particular non-white kids who might be directly hurt by racism or racial stereotyping in the canon. It's more complicated than "Huckleberry Finn is anti-slavery!", seriously.

A couple of links to long pieces (via Longform):

The Lizard, the Catacombs, and the Clock: the Story of Paris's Most Secret Underground Society.

And David Foster Wallace on the lobster. Nom, lobster. Although having read the entire article, I'm afraid my position is somewhat ... complicated. Nom, but also, errrm. The man could certainly write.
