They're not IN LURVE, they're dating and it's a pretty casual thing, but they like each other, and Rodney's trying, god bless him. It's kind of nice to find something in genre television which isn't all OTP and Destined Love and all that yotz. How nice.
Huh. I think you just clicked on what I was trying to figure out about them. I'm still not sold on it - mostly because I'm frustrated that Katie seems to only exist as Rodney's love interest and we don't get to really see her as her own person (as a scientist who has survived quite a while on Atlantis and goes off-world to find new plants and is probably very good in her field, as a person with hobbies and a history and a life beyond being Rodney's love interest). I guess I want to see more of her and her side of things and it's making it harder for me to buy the relationship.
And yet there was something about it I *was* liking and I couldn't define it and...I think you just did for me. Two people who do like each other and respect each other's abilities but it's more quiet and comfortable than mad passion.
