Got back from London (and the Film and Comic Con!!) last night and I have had the best time EVER.
I loved every second of the trip, even before the Con started on Saturday.
Some of the non-LFCC related highlights of the trip were
- The British Museum. I knew it was a huge museum, but I was still amazed at the sheer size of it and at the diversity of its collections. There were so many beautiful artefacts and so much beautiful art. Sadly all my pictures were ruined by lens flare from the light reflected off of all the glass cases that the objects were kept in. (Have I mentioned that I am a crappy photographer?)
- The Sherlock Holmes Museum. *squee* It was really small, but very cute. I actually got some decent pics from this museum :
Nicked this one off Google Image search since I couldn't get a decent pic from the outside.
- Accidentally stumbling across the Beatles store next to the Sherlock Holmes Museum. OMG I loved this little shop so much. Lots of great merchandise.
- Getting lost in Hyde Park
- The Lion King. Went to see the musical. It was BEAUTIFUL. I laughed and I cried and I sang along (very quietly!). The scenography and the costumes were incredible and of course I loved, loved, loved the songs. When it was finished, I just wanted to go right back in again and see it one more time!
Spent most of the weekend at the Con and had a wonderful time. The convention centre was huge and there were lots and lots of stalls with merchandise and art and posters and books/dvds. I bought one TOS!Kirk and one TOS!Spock bookmark, some photos, reboot Kirk and Spock action figures
...and a tribble
(that I have treated appallingly - first I forgot what I had bought and on my way back to the hotel, I looked into my bag and for a minute there I was wondering why I had bought an ugly wig, lol. Then, later in the evening, I left my tribble in a restaurant D: I only just managed to retrieve it before they closed hours and hours later. I am a horrible, horrible tribble mama!)
My tribble:
Both days at the Con, I met up with
kradie, who is the loveliest person ♥ and who looked awesome in her monster maroon! It was so great having someone there to fangirl with and to hug and squeal with after getting Shatner's autograph and after the photoshoot. I also met the lovely
culf, who rocked her green Kirk-dress on Saturday and her mirror!Kirk outfit on Sunday. We queued together to get Shatner's signature, which made the wait less nerve-wracking and way more fun! Everything moved really quickly, but Shatner was so nice and seemed to be in a good mood. He smiled at everyone and I'm pretty sure he made eye contact with everyone as well. I was so nervous and excited when I put the photo I wanted him to sign on the table in front of him that I was shaking a little. When he had signed it, he looked up at me and he smiled and then he laughed (maybe because I looked completely crazy, blushing and grinning stupidly and backing away because I didn't want to turn my back to him. I may also have bowed a little, I can't really remember.)
My signed photo:
Apparently I was still grinning like a maniac half an hour later :D
Saturday evening I had dinner with
kradie,
xlcatloveress and
tracionn and her friend, as well as my RL friend L. This was my first K/S meet-up ever and it was amazing! We flailed over Shatner and talked about the Con, then flailed over Shatner some more and discussed K/S. It was AWESOME. On Sunday we ran into
obstinatrix (who I totally fangirled over, sorry about that! ;D ) and her girlfriend, and then just before the Shatner talk we went to the
ontd_startrek meet-up. I was so excited that I totally forgot to take pictures and I also forgot to get people's LJ names.
Shatner's talk was great. He talked about his many ongoing projects, like the Captain's documentary (I desperately want to watch that documentary RIGHT NOW!) and the new sitcom he's doing, Bleep my dad says. He discussed Star Trek V: The Final Frontier and talked about his work on Boston Legal and about his music albums, and he probably mentioned lots of other stuff that I can't remember right now. Oh, and his favourite colour is red, lol.
This is actually the best photo I got from the talk :( Due to a mix-up with the seat numbering on the tickets, we were seated all the way in the back (boo!). Also I've got a crappy camera and was way too excited to focus on what I was doing:
After the talk,
kradie and I queued for the photoshoot. Once again, everything happened really quickly, but when it was my turn, Shatner looked at me and smiled and said "Hi!" and that made my day EVEN MORE AWESOME. When we were done,
kradie and I jumped up and down and squeed some more. Basically I have been feeling like this ever since Saturday:
The only bad thing about this week-end? It ended.
