Overall the things I loved far outweigh the things I didn't care for, both in the finale and in the season as a whole. This season has had the most well-plotted, well-structured and consistent story arc of nuWho and the finale was brilliant: exciting, fun, intelligent and very rewarding. Nearly all of the loose ends were neatly tied up. I loved all the timey-wimey stuff (even if it made my head spin, lol) - that was classic Moffat and no one does it better. Loved the meta level of the story - the overarching theme of the power of stories and words, and the importance of imagination, it was reminiscent of the S3 finale but much better planned out and executed.
I am thrilled that (for once) the finale had a completely happy ending for everyone (the RTD era conditioned me to expect angst: I kept waiting for something terrible to happen during the final minutes :D) and I love the relationship between Rory and Amy and the dynamic between the Doctor and his two companions. Please, please, let Rory stay around for all of the second season: the Doctor travelling "permanently" with more than one companion in nuWho is a dream come true!! Also excited about the potential for a multi-season arc (it was never explained who piloted the TARDIS and what is meant by The Silence) *flails*
Oh, and ♥ the Doctor in a fez!!
I still feel far less emotionally engaged by Moffat's characters than by RTD's (and I still think River Song is way too much of a Mary Sue. Please go away), and since I generally tend to be more interested in character development and emotional depth than clever plot twists, so I was a bit disappointed by this season in that respect. Granted, there were some emotional moments in the finale and "Vincent and the Doctor" was very touching, but overall I don't really care for Amy and Rory, or even the Doctor, the way I cared for Nine, Ten and their companions. I don't feel like I really know who they are. I am still interested, just not quite as emotionally involved as I'm used to being when it comes to Doctor Who. In a certain sense, both the finale and the season were more intellectually satisfying than emotionally involving.
But yeah, loved the episode. My face looked pretty much like this when I finished watching:
