If your landlord really intends to leave the trunks, see if you or someone you know can carve them into art. There's some gorgeous carved trunk pieces in this area, I could send you pictures for inspiration if you want.

That's an interesting thought. I'll try to find out whether the trunks were left intentionally or whether it's yet another job left half-finished around this place. They're not terribly well placed for decorative purposes, being visible mostly from the driveway, but it's a nifty idea.
