So Cody thought this was rather cute and as I think about it it was more than cute. He and I are sitting in a restaurant and as usual I am daydreaming out the window and see a family hanging around their car and the gentleman takes out a brand new ball for the kids to toss around while the adults talk. It is a rugby ball. The father apparently left something in the restaurant and I stop him as he passed our table just to say it was a pleasure seeing him hand off a rugby ball to the kids (probably 5-7 years old). It is that age to get them loving a good sport. I also mentioned that I had played years ago and even played in Australia for a short time. He smiled and said his daughter played at some local college. Not ten minutes later the daughter and her boyfriend come in and had their rugby ball with them. And in an innocent manner asked that I sign her ball for her and hands me a marker and the ball. Talk about blushing...Hell I am 56, fat and grey and it has been 30 years since I played but it was nice to smile and remember. OK I only made the "B" squad in Australia but did rank pretty high stateside. This at least matched the compliment earlier in the day when sitting at breakfast someone came up to Cody to tell him how powerful his performance was in his play the week before. Pretty sweet. Life gives back smiles every once in a while.
