Soooooo~

My brother sent my mom one of those "inspirational"/"patriotic" chainmail things, and she showed it to me. This one detailed a couple and their 9-year-old son (as it mentioned a few times). The son asks, for whatever reason, why the US is at war. The father explains with a rather violent, depressing metaphor, which devolves into shouting at his son, and makes his son and wife cry.

...Apparently, my mom expected me to be inspired by this, as my brother (in Ye Olde US Navy) apparently was. While I rather liked the rather sweet-yet-naive sentiment my brother added to the end, mostly I just wanted to find the dad in the story and kick him in the face. A lot.

...I don't get the feeling this is what they were after. Am I a bad person? Possibly. For this? Also possibly. Does my mother think this, since she decided to stand behind-and-to-the-side of me to watch me read it? Possibly, since I was rather apathetic-seeming about it, but I also got something in my eye on her side while reading it, so maybe I'm lucky and she thought I was crying out of joy or something.

Do I care? ...Not especially, except for the last part, as I have no vehicle or income and I can't drive anyway, so I'm kinda screwed if my mom decides I'm a bad person. Oops?

In other news, Marvel's doing another "mangaverse" thing. I'm rather fond of Spidey's totally dorky new outfit, but why did they make the Human Torch into a girl? Who looks kinda like Asuka from Meon Genesis Evangelion, at that. People confuse me.

EDIT: I feel I should note now that the chainmail-forward-thing may not have been as bad as I made it out to be. Once I saw it was three pages and noticed the descent into Potter-esque capslock rage, I kinda started skimming, and the dad might have been sorry about making his son cry to make himself feel better about not getting to kill an Arab for good ol' Dubya. I don't know, and don't feel like rereading that crap to find out. However, I maintain that if you make your young son cry to prove what you feel is a point, you probably suck and need to be kicked in the face.

family matters, rant
