[Background]
It will take a long time to explain the whole history up that point so I’ll explain the Hetalia canon with little bit of real history.

Little America was first “discovered” by Finland and Sweden, and inevitably, France and England fought, stalked, or chased over him, England emerging victorious (The reason? Well, France was trying to win over America with his food and England got really depressed that he couldn’t do the same thing - his food is horrid. And young and naïve America felt bad for him. D’aw, ain’t it cute?). After that incident, America was raised by England as a colony. During this time, he had a real fondness for the older nation and he probably looked up to him like a father or big brother figure. England too also took care of America like he was one of his own.

With his body growing tremendously fast, America was taller than England by pre-French and Indian War (early 1700’s). However when the said war began (mainly because of America) and caused a conflict in Europe called Seven Year’s War, things began to change. It caused a strain between America and England - England taxing the young too much and America being a rebellious teen about it. While h was still emotionally attached to his motherland, America declared his independence in 1776 via Declaration of Independence. Of course, England objected and this led to America Revolution. Well, you guys know how that ended. Congrats America, you are a nation. Unfortunately, England and America never had a good friendly relationship after that.

The 1800’s aren’t really mentioned in the canon, but for history’s sake big events like War of 1812 and the Civil War should be noted (Dreaming about Civil War would be fun. Double personality attack!). And it was around this era, America became a continental nation, stretching from Atlantic to Pacific. Also a lot of racism and social injustices - Trail of Tears and the end of slavery (not very well-planned out and start of segregation).

The 1900’s was more fun … and more brutal. America tried to stay out of the World Wars, considering it to be Europe’s troubles. However, he declared war on Germany when he started practicing unrestricted submarine warfare … on his ships. Fighting along side of the Allies, America participated on battles like Spring Offensive and Hundred Days Offensive. The Allies won victory of Germany soon after. Treaty of Versailles and unfair economic penalty of German were issued - though President Wilson wanted terms to be more agreeable to Germany This is going to cause a lot of problems *coughNaziscough* later.

The short period between the WWI and WWII went like this: Jazz Age, Roaring Twenties (with Prohibition), and straight downhill to Great Depression. (We told you not to mass produce so much America). And when WWII erupted in Europe and in Asia, America started a Land Lease program where he lent weapons, equipment, and supplies to England, China, and Soviet Union, but stayed out of the general battlefield. But when Japan firebombed Pearl Harbor, America was in the war with enthusiasm. He declared a war on the Axis in 1941. A lot of fighting continues - thank goodness I am not including Vietnam or Korean War in this background, phew. Anyhow, Italy surrendered in 1943, followed by Germany in 1944, and after nuking Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan surrendered in 1945. After this horrible war, United Nation was now actually made and practiced. And US began its nosy international involvement.

And it was during this century that he became a strongly anti-communist nation (Red Scare No.1 & No.2). The ending of World War II marked the beginning of Cold War as well.

Oh and don’t forget about our lovely sidekick Tony the alien from Roswell UFO crash. Though America doesn’t seem to mind it that much.

[Personality]
Alfred is energetic and outgoing guy - definitely on the active side of the spectrum. Watch out for his sudden burst of patriotism (via stamping his flag on everything he owns) and wonder lust (love of adventures). And creating weird inventions.

He loves heroes, justice, goodness of heart and FREEDOM. Alfred is a self-proclaimed hero. He tends to be nosy as well somewhat arrogant - even if he does have good intentions. In actuality, he just wants some friends. The kid was alone in earlier parts of his life and even growing up as a colony, England often had to travel back and forth on long voyages.

Is he a jerk? Yes, a little. But he does have his child like or childish side to him (i.e. getting excited about summer). And in the end, he is just a guy who loves happy endings.

Hilariously, our little Al is extremely scared about supernatural things (ghosts, goblins, witches, etc.) and every Halloween, he always gets pawned by England (who cheats by summoning monsters). Ah, America still scared of the boogie man. And yet he has an alien friend lol He seems to like to sleep together with someone (not like that) at night because he gets scared easily. Not that he’ll admit it or anything.

Otherwise, he is just stereotypical American. Self-absorbed and lacking that certain class that the older nations seems to possess. Loud, brash, and stubborn, he isn’t the brightest crayon in the box. I think he’s smart … he’s just … dimwitted and/or dense (Reason for thinking that? He loves archeology). In many perspectives, he is still a young nation - inexperienced. And he seems to get annoyed by the fact.

Kind of sensitive about his increasing weight - though he’ll laugh it off if you mention it to him. Or get mad - depends on if you’re a communist or not.

And because of the time he is from, anti-communist is like the heat of thousand suns.

[Specialties/Abilities]
America? Well, considering the times went through he should be a proficient soldier and a pioneer, and anything that comes with it (horse-riding, cow herding, handling guns, and such). Other than that he can produce weird color food, credits go to England for making him eat purple scones when he was young. The weird thing is America likes his food… amazingly.

Oh and don’t forget the monster strength he has. He can lug a car behind him like a tire.

[Affection] He is generally open to most relationships. How committed he would be is questionable. :la But friendships are just generally appreciated.

[Fighting] Sure. Just ring me up - though I wouldn't really like him to fight. Since he's not a freaky superpower hero he wants to be. >_>

[Other Facts]
• Addicted to fast food, especially hamburgers and Coca Cola.
