So this is the story so far with the things that are going on in my life. It's full of death, near-death and frustration. Kind of like a soap opera, but not nearly as fun, because it's happening to me.
Last week,
myburningviolin and I were finally getting into a routine that was making life feel normal again. We had moved The Dad down to a very nice care facility (nursing home) called Calvin Coolidge. This allowed us to have a life and still take care of The Dad. Supposedly.
He got sick again. Apparently, the infection that he had in the hospital wasn't totally gone and it decided to make a comeback. So The Dad ended up the the hospital while
myburningviolin was at work which is exactly what she was worrying about. Of course.
At the same time, I found out that my Aunt Marie was in the hospital. We knew she had liver cancer, but it was supposed to be slow moving. We had been told that she would probably die of something else. Now it looked like the something else would be kidney failure. Some of the family went down to Florida to see her, and there was much crying and rending of clothes. She was one of the aunts that I spent the most time with when I was little, and she was the head nurse in the hospital when I had my appendix out. All of her daughters had baby-sat me when I was little. So this sucked, but we knew it was coming.
The Dad gradually got better, and the $250.00 charge per day to hold his room at Calvin Coolidge hurt the wallet a bit, but we knew that he had a good place to go back to.
Then, Friday, my aunt, to put it bluntly, passed her block. Her kidneys started to work again. There was much happiness everywhere, and it looked like she would recover.
Sometimes fate plays little games. I had a good weekend, saw my brother twice, saw
deravyn and Lisa. Got to see Ray and spend time with
myburningviolin. Then, Sunday, I found out that my Aunt's slow moving liver cancer, apparently isn't. It's metastisized, and she's no longer expected to leave the hospital. My parents went down this week to see her, probably for the last time. And now, it feels worse because fate had teased a bit with some unexpected good news.
On Monday, I took my car in for a routine oil change. Something had been squeaking in the morning, but I hadn't really thought about it. It turns out that it was the timing belt. $370.00. Additionally, my strut plates (that the struts bang against when you go over bumps) are cracked and I need my brakes done. Total price for all of that: about $1000.
So that's what's news.
