Not a lot to say today, so here is...

Let's Play: Mother, Part 3!

When we last left Team John, we had just caused massive property damage by launching a rocket into a pile of rocks that was blocking the train tracks. While you would expect that this would only serve to ruin the aforementioned train tracks, instead it seems that this has flawlessly opened the path for us to continue, of course.

Because this is obviously the safest way to get to the train station.

John and John follow the tracks north to get to the Santa Claus Station, so that we can take train finally. That said, the tracks to the east are busted, so the only path we can take is back to the south. So we buy our tickets and head south.

I don't know how the attendants at this station take themselves seriously. "4:15 to Reindeer. All aboard!"

Reindeer is a pretty dull place to visit. There's a department store (where I pick up a Death Laser for red!John), a hotel, the usual sorts of things. It is notably lacking a hospital - I say notably because several people in the town have colds, and the only way to cure the cold you get from talking to them is to visit a hospital. So be careful who you talk to, I guess - haven't these people heard of covering their mouths when they sneeze?

The only thing of note in Reindeer is a little old lady in the train station who has a hat that belongs to a girl in Snowman.

Dun dun dunnnnn! Foreshadowing. Guess where we're headed next?

So Team John hops a train to Snowman, and almost immediately I notice that the enemies are much stronger. After only one or two combats, red!John has bit the dust, and I have to teleport back to Magicant again. The second time through I actually make it into town, and I'm told that Rose lives in a church off to the east of town. So I head east, fighting off polar bears using the new Death Laser (which is doing wonders, I have to say).

Eventually I make it to the church in the middle of nowhere; seriously, who thought it would be a good idea to put a church way the hell out here, through monster infested arctic canyons? In any case, Rose knew that two boys named John and John were coming to the church because the little girl is always the psychic in these games. She's not convinced of who we are, though, until we give her the hat. As soon as we do, she tells her dad that she's leaving, and the joins the party.

Rose has joined the party!

... and of course she promptly dies in the first combat.

So I grab her a frying pan for a weapon in the Snowman shop, and then teleport to Magicant to grab her some gear so she won't be quite such a wuss. While I'm there I get magic candy that powers up wusses for red!John, and a ribbon for Rose so that both get a little power boost, both of which come from cats. I also swing by the guitar playing guy again, and he's written a song:

"Oh, baby doll, why do you weep?
The saddened canary won't utter a peep.
The monkey can sing, the piano - it chimes.
Though ghosts will play out on it's keyboard sometimes.
Each night in the desert, the lone cactus croons.
The dragon, when beaten, will carry some tunes.
While scaling the mountain, EVE sings along.
Will Queen Mary ever hear the XX Stone's last song?"

It seems to be telling us where each of the song bits are located. Interesting.

With that done, I eventually make it back to Reindeer, and explore a bit more before heading off through the mountains to the west. He's apparently supposed to give me as much as I can carry. When I find him, he's apparently lost his dentures, making it impossible to communicate with him. So I head out on the mountain path, find the dentures, and return them. In exchange, he gives me as much mouthwash as I can carry - literally. Every single empty inventory slot I had across all three characters is filled with mouthwash.

And now for lack of anything resembling a plot hook, I decide it's time to hit up Halloween... which, oddly enough, is a ghost town when I get there. Complete with random encounters in the streets. Fortunately for me, the hotel is super cheap - only $18 for the three of us for the night. Unfortunately, however, the guy behind the desk turns out to be a Starman, and attacks us in the morning. Team John and Rose manage to take him down without too much difficulty.

The next part of town, off to the east, is much nicer. Everything looks more or less normal and not abandoned. The party hears word of the Rosemarys' mansion, which is supposedly haunted. Mrs. Rosemary instantly takes a liking to blue!John, and gives him the key, saying that if anyone can fix it, he can. That said, it's off to the mansion.

Gh, it's another complicatedly large dungeon, complete with ghosts and zombies of all kinds. There's at least one spot where a voice says John is going to die if he continues, along with a couple of other urgings to go back. I did actually explore the entire place and map it all out - albeit in low quality.

My "map", in all it's crappy glory. Left paths are the upper door, and right paths are the lower door.

In the process of clearing the place out, I find a piano that plays itself.

"... sweet harmony."

I also manage to get red!John and Rose killed, so I teleport back out to Magicant as soon as I finish up the place. Heal, go back to Thanksgiving, and for lack of anything better to do (there's nothing left to visit in Halloween, Reindeer, or Snowman), I decide to wander north of Santa Claus station.

... the enemies got tougher, the music changed, and I see sand as opposed to the usual grass. I think I'm in the right place. Gonna end this episode here, I guess. Join me next time when I explore a desert!

Status:
blue!John: Level 27
Rose: Level 14
red!John: Level 22

"Take a melody,
simple as can be.
Give it some words and
sweet harmony."
