So, Rob & I have known for a while that we would be moving to Oregon. While I will miss my friends and the family that I have here dearly, we just can't live the life we want here. It's just too expensive. I want a house, I want my own yard, I want a doggie, and, we want a child. How can we do that living in an apartment paying over $1000.00 in rent and living paycheck to paycheck? We have NO savings.
As some of you might not know, my Dad and stepmom live in Oregon and my grandfather bought a house there about 5 years ago.
They were down this weekend and we met them for lunch on Sat.
My grandfather's house is too big for him and as soon as he gets his big pension (which he should be getting in a few months), he was going to sell his house and buy a smaller one.
He proposed this to Rob & I: As soon as he buys the smaller house, he would rent us the house he's in now. It's 3 bedrooms, 2 baths. Has a laundry room, living room, dining room, big deck, enclosed jacuzzi, and a yard. The rent would be $200.00 plus property taxes at $1200.00 per year.
So, the total would be $300.00 per month. WTF??? That's what I said!!!
We would be saving $9840.00 per year just in rent!! We could save money until we decided if that is the city we want to buy our own house in (it's a pretty small town). We could then afford to live on one income so I could stay at home with our child.
We talked about it ALOT last night and I think we'd be crazy to turn it down. I just need to make sure my Grandpa gets what he is waiting for and buys his smaller house.
I wanted to wait until we got married here before we left, but I can plan it from Oregon.
So...we'll wait and see what happens. We're pretty excited!!
