Sorry, NO CUTS! I have to do this movie the justice it wholly deserves.
There are no words to describe the absolute beauty of the artwork in 5 Centimeters Per Second, a Japanese animated film with a collaboration of stories from different artists about two friends who are separated, and the distance between them unable to sever their friendship. I actually think there are three separate stories ("秒速5センチメートル," "ほしのこえ," and "雲のむこう、約束の場所"), but I haven't read the
official site in full yet. (Actually, those other two stories might be previous projects? Or maybe not?)
The colors are so incredibly fantastic, and I have yet to see an animated film top it in dynamics for color use. As a plus, the music is so nostalgic and perfect, though I would've preferred it just as much without the theme song, "One more time, One more chance" by Masayoshi Yamazaki, which is beautiful in its own right (but I tend to like instrumentals and OSTs better).
Here's just some of the screenshots. But just look at those pallets! LOOKIT!!
Please please please
check out the trailer and
more screenshots. I'd love to get some wallpapers out of these. My desktop is now boootifully imaged with the pink purply landscapes of 5senchi.

In other movie news, there's going to be a live-action version of the shoujo comic 僕は妹に恋をする, or in English, I Love My Little Sister. I've yet to read it (now I'm curious), but it's about twins Yori and Iku Yuuki and, despite their being siblings, their love for one another. It's supposedly very tragic and the artwork looks typically shoujo and cute, but it's a pretty twisted story, due to obvious reasons. I feel like Japanese stories always like these sort of complexes....?
Lolz. Anyway, Matsujun is playing Yori, and magazine model Nana Eikura will be playing Iku. The trailer shows the scene of their kiss and few other awkward and suggestive spots, but it's going to be far less explicit and controversial than the manga and milder OVA... or at least that's what I think. The manga has some pretty intimate scenes between the two, and there are color spreads of them in their underwear and kissing. D: Pretty ... uh, complex for a shoujo series, dontcha think?
Ahh, whatevs. The music on the site is soothing and pretty (as previously mentioned, I'm a sucker for OSTs that have themes like this) and the main movie song is 「きっと永遠に」 by Crystal Kay. It's grown on me already.
I've never been a Matsujun fan annd.... yeah, that's not changing now that I see him in a role as a brother infatuated with his sister, not to mention TWIN sister.
Ha ha ha, just kidding. When I get ahold of the DVD (maybe I'll buy it along with 5senchi when I go to Japan this summer) or find it somewhere online, I'll watch it as open-mindedly as I can.
Btw, the rival for Yori's affections looks like Yongsama. Wtf.
