Because Near is a GENIUS DETECTIVE and knew that if he was going to be molested buy a creepy FURRY in a DIRTY SUIT, he should at least get photographic evidence.

Near wanted to do Mello's homework! He's a reclusive, quiet, "intellectual" - I'd say he's much more likely to commit acts of deviance than a pink rabbit!
