If there was one thing that was known about Cocoa Otoko was their seating arrangements. No one was exactly sure how it started, or even who decided it to be that way, but it was always the same order. Shogo would sit at one end of the row of seats, Kei at the other. In the middle it always went Takuya, Kenta, and Kousuke. Kenta, as leader, always sat in the middle, and the rapper and drummer were always on either side of him. On a rare occasion Kei would sit beside Kenta or even Shogo, but it was always Kousuke who had the other side. If the group was sitting on a couch or posing in a group then two members would be on the arms while three sat on the actual couch. Again, the seating arrangement was pretty similar. Kenta never really made a point about it but the others knew. One spot was always reserved for the Kousuke. In fact they didn't mind keeping it that way since it allowed the two to do their usual flirtation moments that the fans just screamed over.
And it added to the amusement that Kousuke was completely oblivious to the fact that there was a seating arrangement.
There was one occasion that the seating arrangement became problematic. The five of them were to appear on a talk show to talk about their new single "Soldier" that was to come out in May and answer some questions about their plans as a band. The five were able to get some time off of their schedules, and with the latest destruction in Japan they knew that this was their opportunity to bright some smiles to the people in the area. When they arrived they were quickly ushered into the dressing room where the hair and makeup stylists were waiting. Sitting down the group joked with the stylists and each other, poking fun at Kenta and Takuya the most. But it was all in good humor.
Right before they went on set the manager and PD of the show came into the room to talk to the group. That was when the problems started. Clearing his throat the manager waved them all over before he spoke.
"So I was talking to Yamato-san here and we decided to mix some things up today." He began casually, but he knew that what he was about to say would cause problems. "We decided that we need to get more attention on Kei and Shogo since they seem to always be in the background so we are going to change the seating arrangement."
Everyone but Kousuke froze at this and stared at the manager in shock. Never before was there a complaint or an idea to change the seats. They always sat that way, ever since they first started as a band. Glancing at Kenta, the others realized their lead singer was not amused at all. But he was also a professional. He couldn’t throw a hissy fit because they wanted to play musical chairs with his band members. Biting his lip in frustration he tried to think of a way out of it. A moment later a grin appeared on his face and he made contact with the manager and PD.
"I agree, that sounds like a good idea." Kenta agreed, surprising the others.
"It does?" They all asked including Kousuke curiously. The drummer merely shrugged after that. Leave it to Kenta to make things interesting.
"Yeah, we should put Kei in the middle and I'll sit on one side and Sho-chan on the other. That way, Kei can get the main camera angel and Sho gets some time as well." Kenta explained with a smile.
The others blinked then rolled their eyes. Figured that Kenta would find a way for the manger to get their way as well as his seat next to Kousuke. They all agreed to this arrangement, because with Kenta that’s all you can do, and finished getting ready. They were told they had five more minutes and to head out to the set and then the director and PD left.
"I'm surprise you thought up that Kenken." Kousuke said once they were all alone.
"Why's that Kou-chan?" The elder replied with a sly grin on his face.
"Because you love sitting in the middle. I thought you said because you were the leader and such that it was your seat. You're way too much of a attention whore to change so easily." Kousuke joked lightly.
Kenta walked up and threw his arm around the shorter males shoulder. Grinning cheekily he began leading the drummer out of the room.
"There are more important things in life than being the center of attention all the time." He said which caused all of them to snort in disbelief.
"Really, such as?" Kousuke asked sarcastically.
"Well, sitting next to you of course!" He said with a big grin.
"EHHH!"
Laughing the singer led him and the others to the set. Believing that he was just teasing Kousuke glared at the male in mock frustration. The others followed in amusement. They wondered when their rather oblivious drummer would realize the heavy flirting that the leader always displayed was rather genuine. Or when Kenta would just straight tell the drummer he liked him. Granted it would take away a lot of their entertainment but they really needed to get their act together.
The actual interview went well. The five of them were funny, and charismatic for their hosts and fans. Kousuke was laughing at something that Kei was saying when he felt the familiar presence of Kenta leaning up against him. Kousuke smiled and shifted slightly so the singer was leaning up against him better. The host noticed this but before she could comment, or question, the producers were signaling the end of the program. Sighing at a miss opportunity, the host smiled pleasantly to the camera and thanked her guests for coming. Kenta returned the thanks and the five members bowed to the camera and their host before the camera cut them off. Smiling they stood up quickly and began thanking each other and the staff for a good recording.
"Ne, I know we are technically off but can I still ask one more question?" The host asked with a smile.
"Sure." Kenta agreed as they all looked towards her.
"Are you and Kousuke san dating?" She asked curiously.
Kousuke's eyes widened beyond belief but before he could reply an arm draped across his shoulders. Looking up he saw a grinning Kenta and had a feeling he knew what the singer was going to say.
"YEP! Aren't we just adorable?" Kenta asked with a wink.
The hosts mouth dropped open and Kousuke figured now would be a good time to get out of there. Slipping out from under the arm he made some lame excuse and booked it out of the room. Embarrassed and slightly angry at Kenta for causing unnecessary problems he stormed into the dressing room to get his bag together. The other band members followed in shortly, and sensing the smaller man's anger quietly got everything together. Kenta was the last to enter and he had a slightly worried look on his face. He knew he was beginning to push it with Kousuke, but it wasn't like it was all in fun and games. He really did like the drummer. He was just horrible at telling him so without the flirting nature.
Trying to think of a way to apologize, his thoughts were broken by the entrance of the band's manager.
"Guess what!" The man stated in an excited voice.
"Hmm?"
"Yamato-san was really impressed with your performance today, he really liked the chemistry you guys displayed. He wants to have dinner with us to talk about the possibility of another short show!"
The other's were rather excited by this news. They all enjoyed doing Heaven's Rock as a group. The chance for a similar show would be something worth wild to do. Seeing that they were all liking the idea the manager continued.
"So be on your best behavior tonight and hurry up so we can go. Let's not keep Yamato-san waiting."
"Hai!" The five called as they quickly got their stuff together.
When the five were ready they headed out to the van waiting for them. But when Kenta was about to enter the van, the manager grabbed him by the arm. Confused the singer glanced over his shoulder.
"Sorry Kenta-san, but there is something we need to talk about." Looking to the driver he spoke again. "We'll meet you guys there, please don't keep our guest waiting."
The others looked curiously towards the singer, wondering what the manager needed to say to him that couldn't be said to the others. They all nodded their heads in agreement to the plan and waved good bye. Kenta waved blankly back to the van pulling away, frustrated at another miss opportunity of talking to the drummer. He turned to the manager and asked what he needed to know.
"Well here's the thing…" The manager began in a light hesitant voice. He just knew it was going to end badly. "The new show that Yamato-san is thinking about would add some female actors to it."
"We had that in the first show." Kenta reminded him.
"Yes, but she was just a side character that helped the plot, this show…" Again he trailed off. "Well he wants it to have a romantic interest."
Kenta blinked for a second before a frown slowly appeared on his face.
"With who exactly?" He asked in a low voice.
The manager looked away from the man in front of him. When he heard the idea from Yamato-san he was at first excited. And then nervous. While there hasn't been anything official announced about the two, it was obvious to anyone with eyes that Kenta was rather fond and possessive of Kousuke. Well besides Kousuke apparently.
"He was thinking of either pairing you or Kousuke-san with her…"
The man in front of him was absolutely seething at this. Okay so he knew that it was just for a show but still. Kousuke was not going to be partnered up with some girl! But then again, he was suppose to be a professional about everything. And he knew that the shorter male would be really upset with him if he was to find out what was done. He was already dealing with an upset Kousuke, that would just add to it. But damn, the drummer was HIS!
Kenta growled lightly in his throat as he looked away from the manager. He knew he had to calm down before he opened his mouth or else he would say something really regrettable to it all. Taking in a breath he turned to the manager and sharply nodded. It was all he could do for the situation. He was professional, Kousuke was a professional. And despite the fact he wanted to scream bloody murder no to the request and go kill the girl that dared be partnered up with either of the two he knew it was not allowed. And he would find himself in jail and having some upset people on his hands. Putting his hands in his pockets he turned away from the other man.
"If that is all manager-san, we should get to the others." Kenta said in a calm almost toneless voice.
He began walking towards where he knew the manager had parked earlier when the older man spoke.
"You know Kenta, perhaps its time you admit your feelings towards the other." He began calmly.
"Everyone knows my feelings to Kousuke!" The singer snapped angrily.
"Everyone except Kousuke you mean. Look all I'm saying is you need to talk to him. Today was a good indication that you're actions are only making things difficult to him. He probably sees what you are doing all for the fans and nothing more. If you at least admit to that I'll try to get Yamato-san to change the pairing for either Kei or Shogo."
Kenta stared back at the manager for a moment. Biting his lip he looked away as he considered the pros and cons of the idea. In the long run, it was probably for the best if he came clean. But he was worried that Kousuke would be upset and not talk to him anymore. And he had promised Ryuji that nothing bad would happen to the drummer while apart of Cocoa…
Kenta looked back at the manager and gave a small nod. He would talk with Kousuke. For better or worse, it was about time he came clean. He just hoped the other members of both Cocoa and Run&Gun understood his decision. The manager nodded back and continued on towards his car. The two were silent the drive to the restaurant where the others were. Kenta had a lot to think about and the manager knew better than to interrupt.
When the two arrived they headed straight in. The manager led them towards the table where he knew the others would be waiting. Taking in a final deep breath Kenta calmed his nerves and placed on his best smile as he stepped towards the table. The smile slipped a little when he saw the seating arrangement.
Without Kenta's way of getting his usual seat the arrangement ended up being Kei on one side of the booth, and Shogo on the other. Kousuke was seated in the middle between Takuya and Yamato-san. There was still plenty of room for the final two people but it was not where Kenta wanted it to be. He opened his mouth to comment when a hand gripped his arm tightly and spoke deep in his ear.
"BEHAVE." The manager reminded him sternly before letting go. Announcing their presence he bowed to the others. "Gomen for being late."
"Ah, good you're finally here!" Yamato said with a bright smile. "Take a seat, we ordered you something to drink so you didn't have to wait."
The two bowed lightly, though Kenta was a little more stiff, before they took their seats on either side of the booth. Kenta tried not to sulk as he flopped down next to Kei. The bass guitar player smiled lightly and dipped his head towards the singer.
"We tried to get Kou on the outside for you but Yamato-san insisted that the drummer sat next to him. Something about being a fan of Run&Gun." Kei explained in a whisper.
Kenta had to smile at this. At least the other members were there for the effort. Even if it ended up not working this time around. He gave a silent thanks to Kei before looking towards the man who wanted to give the band a second show. Yamato was telling everyone the ideas that he was thinking and the idea of pairing someone up with a female cast member. Kenta had to bite his tongue to not comment when he heard Yamato saying how they were considering either him or Kousuke. The other three glanced at the leader curiously about what he thought but it was Kousuke who spoke. And it was surprising what he said.
"Ne, Yamato-san. May I suggest something?" The drummer asked politely. Everyone turned to look at him.
"What is it Yonehara-san?" The other inquired.
"Well earlier you were thinking that Kei and Shogo should be getting more air time." Kousuke began quietly before finding his courage and speaking up. "Well, wouldn't this be a good opportunity to showcase them. Have them be the ones paired up."
The whole table was silent as they considered the idea. Kenta could only stare at the drummer in surprise. After the manager's warning he wasn't able to protest the idea like he wanted too, but the younger beat him to it. Kenta glanced at the manager who seemed just as surprised with the development. Shogo was smirking, Takuya grinning, and Kei was shaking he was trying so hard not to laugh. Kenta looked at Kousuke who met his sight and smiled. That alone made Kenta's heart race slightly.
"Hmm.." Yamato considered this for a while. "You know, that actually sounds like a pretty good idea. What do you think Kamakari-san?"
Kenta was tempted to say what exactly he thought about it but that would not be good. Seeing as he was so against it at the beginning he just pretended to take a moment to consider the idea before nodding. Smiling that professional smile that has gotten him out of so many situations he spoke.
"I think that's a great idea. We can use Kei and Sho to promote the show. It would work really well." Kenta said as he smiled brightly.
The others quickly agreed to this as well. Seeing as everyone was okay with the arrangement Yamato also agreed and decided to call that meeting over with. He told the band to get some rest and get ready because shortly he was going to call them with more information about the show. Standing up the Cocoa Otoko members and the manager bowed low to the man as he said his farewells. Yamato left the restaurant and the others all released a breath of relief.
"Well that went well." Their manager said with a smile.
"I'm surprised Kenta didn't throw a fit when he heard about the arrangement." Takuya added as they all headed towards the van.
"Why would Kenken be upset?" Kousuke asked curiously, causing all the others to start snickering.
The manager shoot the singer a look that clearly said 'straightened it out' before leading everyone to the van. Kenta took in a deep breath and caught the drummer's wrist before he could enter the van. Kousuke looked back in surprise but before anyone could say anything, Kenta had to drop the wrist in order to catch the pair of keys flying at his head. Looking up he saw the manager's outstretched hand.
"Take my car, but I swear I will kill you both if there is any marks on it. Outside or In." He threatened. "Have a good night!"
The door to the van closed and the others all waved at the pair before the van drove away.
"What…just happened?" Kousuke asked in surprise.
"I think I'm taking you home." Kenta replied as he looked at the keys. "That's probably best, I have to talk to you anyways."
"Eh? Naze?"
Kenta didn't say anything but just smiled at the other male. Catching his wrist again he began to lead them over to where the manager's car was parked. Kousuke was still confused with everything, but figuring that Kenta knew best, he allowed the singer to do as he wish. Kenta opened the door for Kousuke who just laughed lightly before running around and getting in the driver seat. Once they were both buckled in Kenta started the car but he didn’t move.
"So where shall we go?" He asked with a grin. "It seems so unfair that we miss the opportunity to use this car without any rules for the night."
"Didn't manager say not to damage it?"
"Oh we wont damage it, but we can still drive around."
Kousuke seemed to hesitate on the idea. But Kenta gave him the best convincing grin and he finally relented. Besides the opportunity to spend extra time together was rare and should be taken advantage of.
"A drive down Wangan Freeway?" He suggested.
Kenta smiled and pulled the car from the parking lot. The pair drove in silence as they headed towards the freeway. Since it was late, there weren't many cars out and the drive was peaceful. Kenta glanced over at the other and noticed he had pulled the window down and was having a hand doing waves in the wind. Kenta smiled at this. Kousuke, realizing he was being watched, glanced over and smiled back.
"You know…" Kenta began softly. "I have a confession to make."
"Hm?" The other replied, showing he was listening.
"Before we got to the restaurant the manager told me about the show and the idea of pairing one of us up." He paused for a moment. "I was livid with the idea."
"Naze?"
"Because I didn't like the idea of having to share you with someone. Especially a girl on some show."
Kousuke pulled his hand back in and stared at the other. Kenta bit his lip and focused on the road, this was it. He needed to be straight with the other. Otherwise things will just stay as they are, and he didn't want that anymore.
"Why's that?"
"Because I like you." Kenta finally admitted.
"I like you too!" Kousuke replied right away with a smile.
Kenta sighed and stopped at a red light. Apparently he wasn’t clear enough.
"No I mean I like you." He said turning to the other only to find Kousuke really close.
"I know what you meant," The other whispered. "And I like you too. Why do you think I suggested the others getting the part? I don’t want to share you with the others either."
Kenta's heart was rapidly beating at this. If what the other was saying was true then, Kenta smiled and began to lean close to the other.
"Ne, Kenta?" Kousuke whispered as he was close.
"Hm?"
"The lights green." Kousuke smiled and pulled slightly away.
"Eh?" Kenta blinked and turned to see that yes the light had changed colors. Looking in the mirror he saw that the person behind him looked slightly annoyed too at the delay. Waving a hand in apology, Kenta started driving again.
"First opportunity missed." He muttered to himself, missing the grin that appeared on the others face.
"Perhaps its time for us to head back." Kousuke said.
"But why? The night's still young!" The other complained.
"Kenken its nearly midnight, and besides if you behave, I may offer you to stay awhile for drinks or something." The other suggested.
"Hontou ni?" The other asked with a grin slowly appearing on his face.
"If you behave." The other reminded.
"No offence Kou-chan, but I'm sick of behaving tonight." Kenta replied with a smirk on his face. "But I'll still stay over for a bit."
"Guess that's better than nothing."
Kenta grinned at this and began to steer the car in the direction to Kousuke's home. Granted his confession didn't go completely as planned, he was suppose to get a kiss after all, he was still happy. Tonight was turning out far better than he had originally thought. Glancing over at the drummer, his drummer, he couldn’t help but smile. Taking a hand off the wheel, he caught Kousuke's in it. The drummer looked over at him curiously.
"Ne Kou-chan. I like you." He said with a sincere smile.
"Ah, I like you too Ken Ken."
"Good, then that means you are permanently seating next to me for everything. And I'll make sure the others know that too so there is no problems. And I think we should do another fan service."
Kousuke laughed at the other's enthusiasm. If this is what it meant being with Kamakari Kenta, then he gladly takes the job. And besides, he enjoyed the current seating arrangement too. Kenta always proved to be the best to sit next to for anything the band does.
