My name is coco_palmolive, and I am an internet pirate.

So I moved to a small town a few months ago and got DSL service through a smallish local provider. Then I went on about my business. Tonight, though, I got a call from them, observing that I had downloaded the season premiere of the Sopranos and that I needed to delete it because it is copyright-protected by a company who has the will and the resources to track down illegal downloads. AS INDEED THEY HAVE.

I promised I would never, ever do it again, assured them that my router is password-protected so that no one else will be able to do it again, and now I am struggling to overcome the desire to dump about 80gb of copyright-protected media on the off chance that, say, Modest Mouse decides to call up my ISP tomorrow (it is, they note, a strike against me as a customer, and they hope that I will not collect any additional strikes in the future).

MORAL: Choose a big, faceless, corporate ISP if you want to illegally download.

MORAL: I probably would not require much torture in Guantanamo before I started spilling all my secrets.

MORAL: I had been wondering if maybe this last season of the Sopranos was too depressing to watch. Problem solved, because I am sure as hell not shelling out for cable tv.

my sordid life of crime
