Mommy!
The frying pan slipped from Sophie Ivanova's hand, dirty soapy water splashing up from the sink. She turned, her eyes wide and frightened as she looked down at the girl clinging to her skirt, her own eyes wide but innocent. Sophie swallowed and crouched, absently wiping her wet hands on her skirt before she placed them on her daughter's shoulders, holding her in place.
"Suzotchka, dushyenka, you know what I've told you about that."
Susan covered her mouth with her hands in childish dismay. "I'm sorry, Mommy! I didn't mean to! I'm sorry!"
"Don't be sorry," Sophie said warmly, shaking her a little to make her point. "Just don't do it again. We must be careful."
Susan nodded seriously. "Or they'll find us and take you away," she said with all the seriousness of a child repeating her Catechism.
Sophie smiled shakily and smoothed the girl's hair - dark and curly, like her own - back and kissed her forehead. "That's my girl."

"Mommy!"
Andromeda Tonks whirled, half-folded laundry in her hand, and gaped at her daughter floating a foot off the ground on the miniature broom her cousins had sent, grinning proudly.
"Nymphadora! You know what I've told you about that."
With a small pout, Nymphadora slid off the broom and hopped sideways on one foot to retain her balance. "I'm sorry, Mommy."
"Don't be sorry," Andromeda said with a small sigh but a genuine smile as she took the broom and knelt by the girl. "Just don't do it again. We have to be careful."
"I know, I know. Or the Muggles will see me and you'll get in trouble."
"Clever girl," Andromeda smiled, hugging her tightly.
