Religion = Tolerance
Yes, the craziness of some, actually nearly all, popular religious thought has nearly driven me crazy more than once through the years. And with the rise of the religious right, and all forms of fundamentalisms in the world, we hear and will hear a lot more of this kind of thing, I fear.
That was an excerpt from a letter sent to me by my childhood pastor. I havent really spoken with him in over a decade. He wrote a very pro-tolerance essay regarding the looting in the immediate aftermath of Katrina that impressed me so much that I sent him a thank you note. Then he sent this note back.
So many people have chips on their shoulder regarding religion. I am so lucky to have been raised with a spiritual mentor who promotes tolerance, love, acceptance and forgiveness.
On a side note... remember the art of handwritten letters. Buy some stationary and send one out every now and then!
