Sinn/Mars AU-ism
Ok, just out of mild curiosity (and because inspiration will not leave me alone):
Mars has been running around in my head for some time now, screeching that he wants to be a policeman. I mentioned this a while ago and generally, I have no problem with this. I agree with him and think he'd make a relatively decent officer. He's got the right kind of personality. But he's been getting more insistent of late and it's starting to worry me. I'm not entirely sure I have time to do a piece of original fic. I've already got Moonstone, Teacher's Pet, Plato's Path (the previously unnamed S/R AU fic) and the Once More With Feeling (S/M) arc going on. I don't need any more to do.
But these protests don't matter to Mars, who is telling me it is a very, very good idea to write AU fic. A brilliant idea, in fact. He's quite clear on the subject and he knows just how everything should work, as well. The problem I've got is that doing this AU fic would mean abandoning everything else for the moment, and I'm not just talking about a couple of months, either. See, Mars has decided he wants a novel, and if he doesn't get one, he's not going to just keep quiet like a good little muffin and let me carry on with everything else. He's going to kick and scream and generally carry on. The down side to this is I have no time to write a novel, thanks to the approach of exams, various pieces of work and numerous bits of Greek to translate.
And finally, the question is - would anyone be interested in seeing Mars in a universe that's not the HP one? I'm not too sure about it myself, given that he slots in quite happily where he is at the moment. But would he plausibly be able to work in a different society and without the familiar tradition of being a Sports teacher? I don't know, so opinions would be great.
And of course Sinn would be in any AU Mars happened to pop up in. That's pretty inevitable.
